Rm 202 Mr. J. Wiley

Supply List 2019-2020

Mr. Wiley’s Dance Class

Using a contemporary, ballet, jazz, social, cultural, and choreographic dance-based approach, IB Dance explores movement as a creative art form. Student learning includes opportunities to develop kinesthetic awareness, proper body alignment, physical strength, flexibility, endurance, and care of the body while exploring the elements of dance utilizing improvisational and expressive movement through basic dance techniques.

Students will:

  • Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation.

  • Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation.

  • Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work.

Class Expectations:

Dance as an art form requires discipline, dedication, and an open mind. IB Dance lays the foundation for the in depth study that happens in other dance levels. We will explore the art of dance through short readings, discussions, writings, tests, group work, and the physical execution of dance technique. There will be a performance toward the middle and end of the year to demonstrate our work in the classroom to parents, our school, and our community.

Group Work:

Working with others is a vital part of being a successful person and dancer. In IB Dance we will regularly engage in partnering and group work. It is important to be both respectful and cooperative when working with your partner and in a group setting. Each group member’s opinion is an important part of the entire group.
